British Oncological Association
Categories of Membership

The association shall consist of ordinary members, junior members, honorary members, senior members and associate members.

Ordinary Members will normally be qualified staff engaged in the practice of oncology or in a relevant area of scientific research.

Junior Members shall be graduates in NHS training grades in the United Kingdom, clinical academic staff of lecturer grade, those engaged in cancer research who are within five years of obtaining a PhD, or health service trainees in non-medical specialities allied to medicine.

Honorary Members – Individuals who the association wishes to honour can be recommended to the council for consideration for conferment of honorary membership.

Senior Members are those who are associated with the field of oncology but who do not fall into the above categories.

Election of new members

Those interested in joining the association should apply by completion of an application form obtainable from the Secretariat.

Applications for membership shall be ratified by the council of management and a list made available for information to the Annual General Meeting.

The council wishes to ensure that the membership of the association is of the highest standard and is seen to reflect excellence over a wide range of medical, basic and non-medical oncological research. Fulfilment of these aims will be the basis used in reviewing all applications for membership.
